Yet again i cannot write a blog i should because i'm not teaching BUT i can write about how i use google maps and google earth in everyday life.
So....its all about traveling if you ask me : ) Google maps helped me choose the rout to drive to holland, google earth helped me show my b-f where we will stay there,the exact house, surroundings etc.
Really...google earth and google maps are definitely part of my life and i believe that i could find a proper use for those programs in my classroom too..in geography or history lesson...or ...something completely different.

We really do need to put some focus into how these tools fulfill needs outside school too. When we first go jobs here in Serbia two years ago, the first thing I did was to check out the neighborhood we'd be living in and the route to school on Google Earth. We also used Google Maps to plan out the drive here. But of course there are many other tools in this course that have benefited out lives. Google Sketchup for example allowed us to create 3D building plans for our farmhouse in Canada. We sent these to the builder and the final result was picture perfect - we couldn't have been happier. Being able to master all these tools is what we call 21C literacy. Having them increasingly empowers users in ways very similar to being able to read and write.
